Duncan Staines

Duncan leads Arnold & Baldwin’s surveying operations with the rare advantage of over 18 years of hands-on construction industry experience. Having initially trained and worked as a carpenter and builder specialising in residential property projects, he developed an intimate understanding of construction methods, materials, and on-site problem-solving before qualifying as a Building Surveyor through the prestigious SAVA School of Surveying. This transition from the tools to professional surveying gives Duncan unparalleled insight into how properties are actually built, enabling him to identify issues and assess quality with the authority that comes from having worked in the built environment firsthand.

Based in West Sussex, Duncan has accumulated seven years of professional surveying experience – three years pre-qualification and four years post-qualification with Arnold & Baldwin. His management role combines technical knowledge with practical wisdom, ensuring the surveying team delivers thorough, informed assessments grounded in real-world construction understanding. Outside work, Duncan enjoys family time with his wife and two children, occasional motorbike outings, and clay pigeon shooting, balancing his professional responsibilities with the same attention to detail and steady hand he applies to every property inspection.
